FAQ for this category

Do I need the physical card in hand?

Only the number. Mobile Suica, PASMO on iPhone, the T-money app and Octopus on Apple Pay all expose an account ID that works the same way.

Can a Suica balance be spent outside trains?

Yes — that is most of the point. Japanese IC cards pay at konbini, vending machines, taxis and many restaurants, and the same is true for Octopus in Hong Kong.
